3 Model Tips from our very own Model Mentor

What qualities do model agencies look for in a potential model?

It’s a whole package usually! Some of the major factors are height (5’6 and above), dress size (10 and below), being photogenic, having the right attitude and determination, good skin.

Do you have any tips to give any aspiring model?

Absolutely I do! I have dozens of tips which I give away on our modelling courses in a ‘Model Mentor Manual’. To name a few …… there is definately a ‘right attitude/personality’ for a potential model. I succeeded due to the fact I ‘really, really’ wanted to be a model. You have to be very strong willed, determined and confident. Modelling doesnt come to you, you have to go get it! You must always be applying to agencies and then keeping in constant contact with them and reminding them that you’re there. An other obvious tip is always be very well groomed. Think of every last detail … maintaining you hair style/colour, natural neat nails, maintaining your eyebrows (waxing/threading) etc. Keep a natural skin glow from gentle tanning products, dont be tempted to overdo faketan or excessively use sunbeds! Learn how to apply your make-up correctly and what make-up you need to have in your kit.

Are there any common questions you are asked?

Well one thing people often get wrong is that they expect that there is a make-up artist on every job and that wardrobe/clothing is provided. Clothing is normally only provided if you are modelling for a fashion company. You are expected to have your own extensive wardrobe full of bright, wonderful, colourful clothes. You need a huge range of plain t shirts/vests/jeans/jumpers even corporate wear (suits) etc. Make-up artists are only provided on jobs where the budget will stretch to one!
